Monday Meditation

Gracious God, restore our hope.
As in ancient times, we find ourselves exiled—
faithful people
surrounded by the dark and deafening powers
of hatred and fear.

Intolerance and misunderstanding
grind us down
like misaligned gears
in a broken machine.

Realign us, God,
as only You are able.
Compel us
to forgive and love each other,
to turn the other cheek
and offer our hands in fellowship,
especially to those we mistakenly think of as enemies.

Remind us, Eternal Love,
that we are one people,
links in an unbreakable chain of love
strong enough to shatter
the gears of terror and war
invading our precious souls.

Restore us to shalom, Lord.
Restore us to Christ,

in whose name we pray. Amen.
